Home Help

Household management and essential laundry is carried out only where this service has been specifically requested by the service user's care plan.  As such the care plan will direct care 4 u as to how many hours and when the household management and essential laundry is to be provided.  Where this service has been requested, the care worker will follow the instructions as directed by the care plan.  Therefore, care workers providing this service must adhere strictly to specified areas that are to be cleaned and are those used only by the service user.  

Home Cleaning Service 

It is expected that care workers will use equipment for cleaning, which the service user should provide.   Such equipment must be in good working order and free from any safety hazard.  Care workers providing this service can light fires, turn on heating, make and change beds, clean surfaces especially in the kitchen to maintain a hygienic environment, which will also include the cleaning of the bathroom and toilets, defrosting the fridge and cleaning the oven.  Other tasks could include the cleaning of floors, cleaning the inside of windows at arms length or with use of steps that are in good working order.  Care workers providing household management can change curtains, again at arms length or with the use of steps in good working order.  Essential sewing and minor repairs, heavy and light cleaning also come within this service.

 

Laundry Services

Essential laundry will include, washing essential items belonging to the service user, taking washing to local laundrette as required, washing of incontinence laundry, ironing essential items belonging to the service user, taking items to the dry cleaners or the use of the service users complex laundry facilities (washing machines, tumble driers etc).

 

Care workers have a duty to ensure that there is proper control of substances hazardous to health and this requires that all cleaning fluids and substances as with other chemicals are stored in proper containers with contents labels.  Care 4 u require the care workers to report all accidents or incidents (involving either the service user or themselves) immediately and also report faulty appliances or any other circumstances, which might prove to be a risk to their safety and that of the service user.
