If your care plan requires care 4 u to carry out your shopping and the management of all or part of your finances there will be a specific time given for these duties. Normally shopping and the payment of bills are carried out on the same visit. The care worker will take instructions from you regarding your shopping needs and payment of bills whilst out shopping. It is important that the care worker has a clear list of requirements and must also have proper authority where they are required to collect your pension.
The care worker is required to obtain receipts for all purchases and to show you the evidence that the pension has been collected and bills have been paid. The receipts will be handed to you for safekeeping, together with any change from the transactions. The care worker will make a record of the shopping and payment of bills and also other items such as collecting the pension in the service user's records kept at your home. You will be asked to sign their receipt book and retain a copy. Every week the care worker will bring their receipt book to the office, in order to check that the shopping and other transactions have been properly accounted for. Care workers are required to carry out the shopping and other transactions at a shopping facility nearest to your home. If you have special preferences or particular requirements not available locally, then the social worker will be informed and, where necessary, arrange for additional resources to allow for the care workers time for travelling.
Care workers are not allowed under any circumstances to withdraw monies from your bank or building society using your card. Care workers are not allowed to receive gifts or borrow money from you. Neither are they allowed to act as witnesses or signatories to last wills and testaments.
